Most mattresses of such high quality contain Nature's best fillings and reflect long-experienced craftsmen's skills. Compare this with the economically automated industrial and chemical production processes of a memory-foam mattress and the question immediately arises: "What exactly are you paying for?" Arguably, much of the answer to the above is the heavy cost of marketing, which is extravagant and gimmicky and very defensive.
We've needed a new mattress for longer than it was sane to keep using the old one. We had needed it long before my husband, Bernd, lost his job. But after he did, we put a moratorium on buying anything that wasn't necessary for our immediate survival. I'm sure quite a few of you know the feeling of hunkering down and going into lockdown-the-pocketbook-freeze-the-charge-cards-in-a-block-of-ice mode.
Wool can absorb a significant amount of water. Its moisture wicking properties allow water to enter the permeable outer layers of the fibers. The average sleeper produces around a pint of water vapor in their sleep. A wool mattress pad pulls the moisture from the body, preventing the skin from feeling sticky and wet. Body heat causes the moisture to evaporate, giving the sleeper a cool and dry night's rest. The fiber's ability to absorb moisture prevents the body from having a high humidity level. High body humidity level can have an adverse affect on the body.
