In situation of an earthquake, a person knows to maintain calm, and bear in mind a mattress is usually your friend. Ideally a person wants being an open field, but that's not probably to become the situation. Instead a person is in all likelihood to become moving around within a building. If a person is outside, get away from buildings and power lines. Accidents are additional most likely to occur when things fall down on a individual, rather than the ground swallowing them up. The ground may perhaps ripple like water, but it will likely be much more in all likelihood to knock one down more than than produce a cavern.
Fortuitously, for several days prior, I had been researching mattresses online. I had a small inkling of what they might cost and had found out some interesting facts about mattresses. Most manufacturers of innerspring mattresses get all their springs from the same source. There are only a couple of exceptions. The only differences are in number of springs used and the gauges of the wire used to make the springs. Some manufacturers cover the springs with fancy sounding fabrics to raise the "perceived" value and thus justify charging more for them. Most manufacturers change the name of each model for the different vendors so that the consumer can not easily compare prices between one retailer and the next. All non-innerspring (and some innerspring) mattresses are insanely expensive. None of this gave me much confidence of finding a mattress, but since Bernd was willing and this might be my only chance to do it, we did it.
Why would you want a firmer mattress? As I mentioned above they are excellent ways to improve a softer bed. It's very tricky to firm up a soft bed but a memory foam topper can do this for you quite easily. If your bed has some parts that 'aren't quite as good as they used to be' then this can be a simple way to improve the texture of it.
Mattresses originated in the Middle East as early as the Neolithic period. It is thought that early humans used animal pelts to cover piles of debris such as straw and grass to create soft sleeping spots. There is evidence that Persians invented a mattress style that involved filling goat skins with water around 3600 B.C.E. In essence, they invented the first water bed, a style of mattress that saw high popularity centuries later in the 1960's through 1980's. Of course, modern water beds do not use goat skins as a general rule.
