If consumers followed your advice we would all be getting cheap comfortable mattress that didn't address the consumer needs. You're biggest flaw is that you assume that all consumers shop just like you. Every consumer is unique and has unique needs. Some consumers needs mattresses that have a high motion separation index, some require mattresses with more support, some need edge support some are athletes, some are single, some are couples, some have allergies. And a good mattress expert will elicit and help appeal to these needs.
Many people sleep on air mattresses thinking that they are better than memory foam mattresses as well. When you consider that air mattresses are prone to breakage that could potentially leave you without any sleeping support in the middle of the night, it is easy to see that memory foam mattresses are the better choice. An air mattress is preferable to coil mattresses for a few nights stay at a friend's or families home or while vacationing, but for long-term, maximum support that you can rely on, memory foam mattresses are truly hard to beat.
If you have never tried using a memory foam mattress or pillow, now would be a good time so head on over to the nearest store or check what retailers have to offer online. Since looking at a brochure, listening to the sales talk or touching it will not convince you if this is better than your regular pillow.
When buying the mattress, you should ask the salesperson whether you can try lying down on it to know how it feels. Some shops may not allow this, but you should be adamant about it because it is your right as a customer to try the product before making a purchase.
