Memory foam, also known as visco elastic polyurethane foam, has a few nice advantages as well as a few drawbacks. Determining if it is the right bedding for your circumstances calls for a discussion of its traits. Memory foam was originally produced for NASA in the 1970s, but manufacturing prices were so high it wasn't considered marketable to the general public. But, as manufacturing prices lessened it eventually began being marketed profitably in the 1990s. It didn't take very long before customers turned it into an extraordinarily standard bedding preference.
I really have to disagree on this. In Europe, boxsprings are almost unheard of and we don't seem to hear them complaining. Also, with a mattress like a Stearns and Foster, that is sometimes more than 12" thick and needs two people to carry it, it really ought to be good enough to support the sleeper. Other companies, selling latex and memory foam mattresses, don't recommend a boxspring, so why Stearns and Foster recommends one for its innerspring and latex versions is debatable. I sometimes wonder if it's just a ploy on making more money by making customers believe they need this 'extra' support.
If you're not washing your bedding regularly, with water in excess of 130 degrees Fahrenheit, you're not doing anything to kill the dust mite population living in your sheets. It's recommended that you wash sheets and pillowcases weekly, and blankets and comforters on a six-week rotation. That's a bit more to add to the laundry list, but doing so will go a long way in ensuring that you're sleeping in a clean environment.
