Companies make such a big deal about the edges of mattresses. Restonic uses 'Super Edge Plus Technology' to ensure a firm edge; Sealy uses 'Unicased Edge Design'; and Serta uses 'Advanced Encasement Design'. What each of these manufacturers is trying to tell you is that they all use a piece of high density foam wrapped round the edge of the mattress to encase the springs - that's it and nothing more.
Generally, the best expert suggestion seems to be that it is best to purchase a standard type mattress with firm support and then simply add a softer pillow top to the surface. This will provide underlying spinal support while also adding a soft surface that will soothe tender joints and muscles. Also, a topper can more easily be replaced if its filling begins to settle and there is not the major investment in a topper as there is in a mattress.
Latex foam has a higher elasticity to it than memory foam has. When you sit on a memory foam mattress it will feel more solid and firm than a latex one. The latex foam will feel springy in comparison.
