The real reason for foam encasement is that it saves the manufacturer lots of money. Plastic foam is much less expensive than spring steel. Foam encasing a mattress reduces the amount of spring steel used by eighteen percent. Then it gives the manufacturer a marketing ploy (marketing spin) to promote their mattresses and to convince the customer to pay more money for the extra feature. Manufacturers of latex and memory foam mattresses also employ this tactic. Please read our other articles and learn the many other crafty things mattress manufacturers do to rip off their customers!
The price of memory foam mattress pillows could go from $35 to $79. Best of all, it has the same benefits of a full foam mattress which includes absorbing heat and pressure and it molds itself around your head and neck. This means you don't have to fluff or punch it anymore before you use it so you will sleep soundly until the morning.
These days we often think of memory foam in terms of mattresses, mattress toppers, and pillows, all of which are sought for comfort. Are you aware that memory foam is also commonly used in health care settings such as hospitals and nursing homes because using memory foam furniture cushions and mattresses minimizes the occurrence of bedsores in immobile people? It is also a common material of choice in the manufacturing of wheelchair seat pads, and the interior padding in safety helmets. Chances are good that your favorite football line-backer has memory foam lining the inside of his helmet. This is because memory, or viscoelastic, foam is dense enough to pad and protect by absorbing the energy of an impact, but it also reacts to body heat to soften and mould for a comfortable fit. This attribute of retaining its supportive firmness while softening to relieve pressure points is exactly what makes it sought after for its positive orthopedic effects. That is, foam-filled furniture helps keep your body in alignment without creating pressure point discomfort.
Bonnell innerspring mattress support systems, also commonly called "open" systems, are built of coils in hourglass shape. Each hourglass shaped coil is attached to every coil on each side of it by other, small coils. The small midsections of the hourglass shaped coils are often weak spots, and Bonnell innerspring mattresses tend to wear out faster than other types of innerspring systems.
